img_5808-1Simone van der Steeg is an author from The Netherlands. She is the writer of the Chronister trilogy. In 2008, she started writing the first part of the trilogy. The last part was released in Dutch in 2013.

Simone started writing when she came up with the plot for The Chronister Cliff, during her time in film school. There, she was given the assignment to create a short film of which the title had to be The Encounter. The idea of it was simple: the short film could be about anything, but an encounter had to be part of it and it couldn’t be longer than ten minutes.

She started writing the scenario. However, she soon discovered that it would be too long for a film of just ten minutes. Besides that, it seemed almost impossible to her to create the short film she had in mind. She put the story aside and started writing a different, more realistic scenario for The Encounter.

A long while after she had turned in the assignment, she still often thought about her original draft for The Encounter. The idea had originally come to her in a dream and at that point her dreams about it seemed to have returned. That was the moment she knew she had to finish writing the story, but not as a scenario. She decided to turn it into a book.

After she had written a summary, she showed it to some other people for the first time. They were very enthusiastic about it and immediately told her she should absolutely start writing the book.

While she was writing, it soon became clear to her that the book should have a different title. Eventually, she came up with Chronisters Klif, which is the Dutch title of her first book. After only writing for a couple of days, she already knew that the story wouldn’t just consist of one book, but that The Chronister Cliff would be the first part of a trilogy.

About three years after her school assignment The Encounter, the Dutch version of The Chronister Cliff was ready to be printed. It was released on November 5th, 2011.

The second part of the Chronister trilogy, called Chronister’s Curse, was released about five months after the first part, on April 21st, 2012. The Dutch title of the third and last book of the Chronister trilogy is De Laatste Chronister. This book was released on February 2nd, 2013.

In September of 2014, the English version of Chronisters Klif was released as The Chronister Cliff. On the day of the release, Simone van der Steeg also announced that the entire trilogy will be translated to English. The second book has recently been published in English, in November of 2016. The English title and release date of the last part of the trilogy are still unknown.

Maanwees – her fourth and most recent book – was released on June 8th, 2015. This book is not a part of the Chronister trilogy and was not intended to have any sequels, as it was written as a standalone novel. However, it has been confirmed that a sequel to the story is considered a possibility. The English title and release date of this book are still unknown.

Simone van der Steeg was born on December 14th, 1990 in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. After high school, she decided to go to film school. She quit in 2010 and started working in a restaurant full time. In the summer of 2012, she quit her job to focus more on her writing. Currently, she is working on the English translation of her third book, of which the release date is still unknown. Besides writing, she studies Law and Dutch and works as a teacher at a community college.
